Nicklaus vs. Palmer

To start both of these gentlemen are outstanding golfers. When looking at the facts of titles won, Nicklaus has Palmer beat hands down with a total of 18 to 7 wins in title matches. Nicklaus currently holds 6 Masters Titles, 4 US Open Champion Titles, 5 PGA Championship Titles, and 3 British Open Titles.

Jack Nicklaus has finished in the top 3 in PGA events 165 times out of 594 appearances. 73 of those were straight out wins. Over his 50-year career, he has been consistent and always plays to the fans. Ten years his senior, Arnold Palmer appeared in 734 PGA events, finishing in the top 3 only 127 times. 62 of these wins were at the number one position.

With the PGA stats singled out, the two appear to be neck and neck. This long time rivalry has given golf some of its most exhilarating moments. In monetary terms, Nicklaus has also been the big winner with a career total of $5,734,320 in prize winnings. Palmer only compiled winnings of $1,861,860, which is still respectable. Overall, however, it is Nicklaus that is receiving the most praise and acclaim with near 60 awards and commendations spanning his career to include an ESPY Award and the Vince Lombardi Award of Excellence. Both champions have done their part to ensure that Golf is a respected sport, and have inspired many others to try their hand at the game.

Nicklaus vs. Woods

Tiger Woods burst onto the professional golf scene in 1996. He made quite the rookie statement, and did not stop to look back for many years. As of late, Woods has suffered many personal embarrassments that have tarnished his name in golf, and the world as a whole. This does not change that he is still an exceptional golfer. However, he has much work to overcome the drama surrounding him.

In terms of money won, Woods has the bigger price tag, but prize structures have changed dramatically in recent years. There are several points that make Nicklaus the better golfer. Finishing more often in the top two makes him a better choice. When evaluating the names of players that Nicklaus has finished second to compare to that of Woods, the former is just in a higher caliber of golfers. This in no way detracts anything from Tiger Woods, who is an extremely talented golfer in his own right. Woods has not reached the exceptional level of Nicklaus, and likely that he will never aspire to such heights and lovability among the masses. Jack Nicklaus will always remain the better player in most eyes
